Abstract : The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is responsible for the majority of human malignancies. Chemotherapy patients have low white blood cell (WBC) counts, which increases the risk of infection and is Iraq's top public health issue. WBC can destroy tumors and assist in infection control, but they also increase tumor development, metastasis, and treatment resistance. The body is more susceptible to infection when the lymphocytes count is low. The goal of our research was to show if there was a link between low lymphocyte counts and EBV infection in cancer patients. The study included patients (cross-sectional study). The Middle Euphrates Center for Cancer split the participants into two groups: 90 cancer patients with Lymphocytopenia and 90 (no Lymphocytopenia) 180 blood samples were taken, a blood sample from a cancer patient undergoing chemo (period between February, 2021 and August, 2021). The patients' ages varied from 10 to 70. Subjects' samples were divided into In the CBC test, entire blood samples were tested for EBV Ags, IgM, and IgG, CBC test, amount of lymphocytes is 1000/mcL (1 109/L). Using commercial ELISA kits, patients' blood samples were tested for EBV Ag, IgM, and IgG antibodies. This research examined three Lymphocytopenia symptoms (mild, moderate, and severe). Mild patients made up 35.6%, moderate 30%, and severe 34.4%. The three degrees of Lymphocytopenia were categorized by age groups; with category (51-70) having the most severe cases 43.3%. The 31-50 age groups came in second with 33.3 %. These tests looked for EBV Ag, IgM antibody, and IgG antibody in all three Lymphocytopenia grades. The original data showed 90 people with 29 IgM-positive cases (38%), 43IgG-positive cases 52%, and EBV Ag positive cases 18 it found mild results in 32 cases, including 9 IgM and 11 IgG positives. There were also 7 EBV Ag positive patients. The moderate group included 9 IgM positive, 11 IgG positive, and 7 EBV positive patients. In terms of severity, 10 individuals had IgM, 18 had IgG, and 3 had Ags. According to the results of the current investigation, cancer patients with Lymphocytopenia were more likely to have viral infections than cancer patients without Lymphocytopenia.
